The Perfected Woman Lecture Series is a collective of interactive workshops that address pertinent issues affecting women of color.  By incorporating scholarship and fellowship, women will learn about the root of many issues and how to overcome them in their personal lives for the betterment of themselves and the community.

Designed to enlighten and inspire, the lecture entitled Black Beauty: Fearfully and Wonderfully Made will address the concept of beauty for African American women.  Throughout history, beauty has been a determinant of femininity, however, proposed standards of beauty tend to exclude women of African descent.

Given the tragic past of this particular group of women, defining beauty as well as accepting our unique blend of beauty is still a dynamic issue to resolve for the sake of future generations.

The seminar is comprised of the following topics:

• Pickaninnies and Jigaboos: The Impact of Slavery and Racism on Black Beauty
  
• Kinky Locs and Luxurious Tresses: The Crowning Glory Debate
• Complicated Complexions: High Yella, Blue Black, and Everything In Between
• Baby's Got Back: The Body Battle
• In the Eye of the Beholder: Embracing Your Unique Blend of Beauty
